Arctial is looking for a dedicated Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to lead the integration of EHS requirements.
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager ensures that the project meets regulatory, corporate, and industry best-practice standards while preparing for permitting and execution. In this role you are leading the integration of EHS requirements into our Feasibility Study (FS) phase.
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental

- Ensure FS engineering complies with applicable Finnish and EU environmental legislation, BAT conclusions, and permit conditions.
- Coordinate environmental consultants to close EIA actions and develop permit-ready documentation.
- Define emissions, waste, water, and by-product management strategies (incl. spent pot lining, fluorides, dust, noise).
- Support development of GHG accounting methodology and low-carbon aluminium positioning inputs.
- Maintain the environmental risk register and ensure risks are reflected in design and cost.
Health and Safety
- Establish safety-by-design principles and performance requirements for FS engineering.
- Lead and/or coordinate formal risk studies (HAZID, construction risk review, operability reviews).
- Define major accident hazard controls related to molten metal handling, high electrical currents, chemicals, and confined spaces.
- Ensure constructability and operability risks are identified and mitigated early in design.
- Align FS outputs with future execution strategy (EPCM, Hybrid, EPC) and operational HSE management systems.
Integration and Assurance
- Interface closely with engineering, construction, operations, and permitting teams to ensure EHS requirements are embedded, not appended.
- Review FS deliverables for EHS compliance and consistency.
- Support gate reviews, lender/investor due diligence, and regulatory interactions.
- Contribute to FS cost and schedule by identifying EHS-driven scope and constraints.
Qualifications:
- Degree in engineering, environmental science, or related discipline
- 10-15+ years of EHS experience in large industrial or energy-intensive projects
- Strong knowledge of EU and Finnish environmental and occupational safety regulations
