Chief Control Engineer

Aarhus, Denmark or remote

Goldwind are expanding their R&D team in Denmark. A key role in this expansion is the addition of a Chief Control Engineer who will take the technical leadership responsibility for a small team within the Control & Loads department.

Responsibilities

As Chief Control Engineer, you will report directly to the local Management Team of Goldwind Denmark and act as a key interface to R&D stakeholders at the HQ.

Your main areas of responsibility will include:

  • Directing and driving technology and control solutions for WTGs from feasibility stage to fully verified solution in field (including certification with third parties).
  • Providing inputs to Goldwind control and turbine technology roadmap
  • Feasibility studies of new turbine features to optimise power, loads, noise, etc. and enhance stability, and ensure safe operation for both new and the existing WTG platforms.
  • Providing optimised and customised engineering solutions based on site-specific conditions to the commercial projects in collaborations with peers from Loads and Wind&Site, etc.
  • Participate in implementation/functional and wind turbine development reviews
  • Optimize wind turbine control system behaviour in blade and wind turbine design projects
  • Handle field issues, sudden events related to controller performance and provide solutions to improve the turbine reliability and to ensure turbine structural integrity, etc.
  • Operational data analysis in turbine/farm level for controller optimisation and tuning
  • Define risk management activities such as risk assessments and failure mode and effect analysis
  • Developing and maintaining interfaces to universities and other external partners
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of engineers in a global organization and act as liaison with the global controls department.

Experience and Qualifications

The successful candidate needs a deep technical understanding of control systems, ideally within the wind industry and a solid track record of working in an R&D environment.

We therefore expect you to have:

  • MSc or PhD within Control, Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Vast hands-on experiences with Control System Modelling, Controller Design, Controller Tuning and Controller Verification, ideally working specifically with wind turbines
  • Solid knowledge within dynamic simulations of structural or mechanical systems
  • Proven MATLAB/Simulink experiences in both simulation and control development
  • Experiences in wind turbine simulation tools such as Bladed, HAWC2, Flex5 or similar

As a person you are proactive and creative, with a result-oriented approach to problem solving and able communicate your ideas effectively. You will ideally have experience working in an international environment with an understanding and interest in working with people from different cultures. You should be fluent in English (written and spoken).

The ideal candidate is based in Aarhus where you can easily meet colleagues in the office. That being said, for the right candidate, Goldwind are open to a fully remote working setup as long as you are willing to come to Aarhus on a regular basis (mutually agreed). You should also be motivated for around 10-15 days of international travel per year (in addition to any travel related to remote working).

Goldwind’s Offer

Joining Goldwind Denmark, you will join a small, independent team with a flat hierarchy and Nordic values but with a close integration into the wider international organisation that allows for strong career development and project funding opportunities.

Some other reasons why joining Goldwind might be the right next step for you include:

  • Possibility to travel to China and frequently interact with international colleagues both in the Danish and Chinese teams
  • Support for professional development by way of trainings and funding to attend industry events
  • Strong R&D focused environment with likeminded colleagues and a fast-paced approach to innovation
  • Possibility to work on cutting edge technology within the wind industry for a leader in the field
  • Greater diversity in development projects due to the broad range of environments Goldwind’s turbines are exposed to
  • Large flexibility in terms of working hours and office presence that supports maintaining a healthy work-life balance
